Solid suar coffee table

A coffee table with a top cut from a single slab of suar, the rain tree. The edge stays as the trunk grew (live edge). Suar carries two colours in one trunk, a dark heartwood and pale sapwood, and the top shows both. Legs in teak or from the same trunk. The table is made in the Ketut Puja workshop in Mas, where the slab dries in the shade for months before it is sanded smooth and oiled. No varnish: the wood should breathe.

Approximate size: 100–120 × 50–60 cm, height 40–45 cm. Parcel dimensions: 125 × 65 × 45 cm, about 45 kg packed.

It sits well in front of a sofa, in a room with pale walls and linen, next to a rattan lamp. One strong piece is enough to give a room weight and warmth.

Material and care: oiled wood dislikes standing water, so use coasters under wet glasses. Dust with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Refresh the surface with wood oil from time to time. Keep away from radiators.

Handmade: every top comes from a different tree. The grain, the share of dark and light wood, the line of the edge and the exact dimensions differ from the photo. That is the nature of handwork, not a defect.
