Bulan onyx basin

A countertop basin in onyx. Onyx is translucent: lit from below, the bowl glows from within like the moon, hence the name Bulan. The rim stays raw, with the stone’s natural fracture, while the inside is polished by hand to a high gloss. The onyx blocks travel from Java to the stone workshops near Denpasar.

Size: 45–60 cm, depth about 12–15 cm, Ø45 mm drain. Shades from honey to cream, the veining always different. Parcel dimensions: 70 × 50 × 25 cm, about 22 kg packed.

It looks best on a wooden or stone counter, lit from beneath or with a lamp close by. In a guest bathroom it is the one object that can stand in for all the decoration. It suits brass taps and bare walls.

Material and care: natural stone needs sealing from time to time. Clean with a mild product, no acids, vinegar or abrasives. Wipe cosmetic stains straight away with a damp cloth.

Handmade: every bowl is cut from a different block. The shade, the run of the veins, the shape of the rim and the exact dimensions differ from the photo. That is the nature of stone and handwork, not a defect.
