Lotus carved wall panel

An openwork panel hand-carved in suar or mahogany. Motif: lotus, tree of life or a geometric mandala. It is made at the Karya Mas workshop (I Wayan Latra) in the village of Mas, the centre of Balinese carving. The panels are chiselled from both back and front so the openwork is clean on both sides.

Sizes 40–60 cm. Finish: natural wood, whitewashed or gilded — state it in the notes, together with the motif. If you leave it blank, we will ask by e-mail before shipping.

For a wall in the living room, bedroom or hallway — alone or composed with a sun mirror. Hung beside a lamp, it throws the pattern as a shadow on the wall. In Bali the lotus stands for purity: it grows from mud and blooms above the water.

Material and care: dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush. The natural version can be wiped with wood oil now and then; do not oil the whitewashed or gilded finish. Keep away from radiators and damp.

Handmade: each panel is carved individually. The openwork drawing, the shade of the wood and the exact dimensions differ from the photo — that is the nature of chisel work, not a flaw.
