Stone washbasins from Bali

A stone washbasin from Bali is carved from a single block, so no two are alike. The usual materials are river stone (batu kali), with a smooth grey skin shaped by water, and onyx or marble, which glow honey-coloured against the light.

A typical basin measures about 40 by 15 centimetres and weighs 20 to 40 kilograms, which is why it travels to you on a pallet. The stone is sealed after finishing; a mild, acid-free cleaner is all it needs. We photograph every piece before dispatch, so you know exactly which grain you are getting.
