Sculptures and figures from Bali

Carving in Bali happens in a handful of villages that have done nothing else for generations: Mas carves wood, Batubulan carves stone, and Jepara on Java is known for relief and joinery carving. The carver works a single piece of wood with a chisel, so the shape follows where the grain ran.

We carry Buddha figures in suar wood, painted topeng masks from mask theatre, and wall panels. No two pieces are identical: they differ in grain, depth of cut and shade of finish. Before shipping you receive a photo of your own piece.
